AN EVENING OF CAKE, COMPEITION AND CELBRATING LOCAL FOOD! EVERYONE WELCOME.
To celebrate harvest time & the onset of Autumn we are holding a harvest themed bake-off and event at our collection on the 4th of October. Our aim is to showcase what Derby Food Assembly is about, to inspire everyone to get cooking with seasonal and local produce, and to create an enjoyable evening! Come and meet our producers, try their local produce and join in with our community bake-off!
1. TASTERS & USUAL FOOD COLLECTION
As normal members will be able to collect their produce ordered online at www.foodassembly.com, but this week our producers will also be bringing tasters to showcase some of their products! Feel free to come even if you haven’t placed an order. Try before you buy! We will also have some new producers ….
2. CHARITY RAFFLE
We will be selling tickets for the chance to win a hamper of local produce, with proceeds going towards Derby Night Shelter, who provide a hot meal and night accommodation for the homeless over winter, in the churches around Derby city centre.
We are opening the bake-off to everyone. It’s free to take part and you could win one of three amazing prizes! The theme is seasonal fruit and vegetables, so we are thinking cakes and sweet items baked with apple, pear, plum, carrot, squash, courgette, beetroot, blackberries …. your choice! The winners will be decided by a ballot, so even if you haven’t baked, you can still take part in the tasting and judging. Channel your inner Paul & Mary! Cakes to be part of the competition need to be delivered before 6pm, but the sooner after 5.30pm the better, and the votes will be counted at 7.15pm and the winners announced. First prize is three tubs of Bluebell’s Dairy Ice-cream (assorted flavours); second prize is a selection of Bittersweet Chocolate and third prize is a locally grown hanging basket from F Jackson & Son! But of course it’s the taking part and celebrating local seasonal produce that counts 🙂 Remember you may also get extra points for using local eggs & flour or for making gluten-free or vegan alternatives!
Come and Say YES to Local!
