This is a really interesting film. Please come along! Derby Peoples Diary have worked with Bread and Roses, who have worked with QUAD, to get it shown in Derby. You may have heard of the Fearless Cities movement, or Radical Municipalism, or Community Wealth Building – if not look them up! If you are interested in Corbynism, you will be interested in this film. In 2015 in Spain, housing rights activist Ada Colau was elected mayor of Barcelona, and ‘movements from the squares’ won local elections across the country on manifestos pledging to tackle corruption and radicalize democracy. This documentary shows the very human process leading up to that, of ordinary people working out how to begin to engage with the structures of local government.

Quad description:
Ada Colau, a well-known activist against evictions in Spain, decides to run for Mayor of Barcelona. Surrounded by a team with little experience in institutional politics, Colau candidly shares the doubts and thoughts arising from her foray into mainstream politics. The film combines the enthusiasm surrounding the construction of a new political movement with the inner struggle of someone who fears becoming part of the power structure she has so often critiqued.

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by the Bread and Roses group.

Standard price is £9.50. Quad members special Monday price is £5.
If you are not a member, you might want to consider it as you would save money if you go to Quad more than once or twice a year. Single membership is £35/yr and joint is only £55, and you get 2 or 4 free tickets. So it really only costs £17 (or £19 between 2 people). Then you get £7 tickets, (£5 on Mondays) and 10% off in cafe.
