The A38 Junctions scheme in Derby will expand the A38 road to three lanes at Kingsway, Markeaton and Little Eaton and in doing so will fell hundreds of trees, take away public park space, increase air pollution during construction, cause traffic chaos for 4 years, demolish people’s homes, destroy wildlife habitats, emit 131,000 tons of CO2 from just the construction and increase road traffic at a time when we need to be reducing it to meet climate and air quality targets.
The outdated scheme was approved by the Secretary of State, Grant Shapps, based on outdated planning policies that fail to take account of the climate emergency, the biodiversity crisis, the pandemic and current economic crisis. This must be challenged and stopped for the sake of the health of Derby residents and the health of our planet.
