OUR SOCIALIST BURNS NIGHT IS BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND January 28th – book now to avoid disappointment
Robert Burns was a great poet, a great Socialist and agreat Internationalist. Each year Burns Nights are held all over the world to commemorate his life and recognise his significance for today – and we need Socialism and Internationalismtoday pretty desperately.
The night – Saturday Jan 28th – consists of a traditional Haggis, neaps and tatties dinner, quite a bit of beer, wine and whiskey and convivial (and quite short) speeches and toasts. Our take on Burns Night is particularly internationalist. We do not have a Scottish piper playing in the Haggis. We have an Indian Dohl drummer. We do not have the “Loyal Toast to the Monarchy” (it would have made Burns choke!) – we have a Toast to the Workers. Neither do we toast “The Lassies” – our toast is to “The Struggle For Equality”… and so on throughout the evening.
It’s a very good night out!The evening is being organised by the “William Paul Society” (the educational and cultural arm of the Derby CPB branch) and the socialist Morning Star newspaper. book your places quickly. There are only 70 places and they always go quickly!
