In Juzo Itami’s classic and surreal comedy, dubbed a ‘noodle western’ by critics, trucker Goro rides into town to help restaurant owner Tampopo create the perfect noodle soup by running her through a rigorous training process, stealing secrets of broth-making and challenging other ramen-makers to Sergio Leone style stand-offs. Itami also takes detours into other assorted tales of the joys of food, ranging from a gangster who mixes hot sex with food, to an old woman who terrorizes a shopkeeper by compulsively squeezing his wares.
This screening will be introduced by Satori Screen’s Peter Munford.
