Thrive Solidarity Sundays have been running since January 2020, monthly community gatherings with the chance to meet others and discuss a variety of topics and themes – and since lockdown these events have been online.
Given that this situation is continuing maybe longer than we thought, what can the Thrive community do or bring to the situation? What now, and what next? What is needed, and what are we best placed or able to do?
Did you know, the Praxis Probiotics Give & Takeaway project have been making and distributing healthy food during lockdown, and raised over £1250 in donations for a Thrive Community Recovery project?
It would be great to hear everyone’s ideas on what could be done with that money… We won’t be making a decision, but generating and developing ideas. We’ll hear and develop some ideas already generated (food security, memorial/reflection garden, bike loan, internet fund, sanitary wear scheme), and also have the chance to think up new ones.
“How we roll”
There has been a bubbling conversation over the months about how to make Thrive events inclusive and supportive for all people. The list below summarises suggestions at our May event, Being Better Allies. Do you think anything else should be added?
Everyone’s story is valid, learn from each other
Make sure everyone has the chance to express themselves
Don’t be afraid to ask something if you’re unsure
Respect each other even if you disagree
Add light not heat (share more information not judgement where there is disagreement)
Take a break if you need to
Recognize that we are all still learning. Be willing to change your perspective, and make space for others to do the same.
Draft running order:
3.35pm – welcome, introduction to the tech, the event, the theme
3.40pm – small breakout rooms to say hi
3.45pm – Ideas so far, plus questions & comments
4-4.30pm – breakout rooms to develop ideas – move around if you wish!
4.30-4.45pm – hear back from groups
4.45pm – recap, reflect
4.50pm – announcements and thank yous
5pm – main event ends
Post-event space for any facilitators or anyone else to reflect more.
